Noted Dallas attorney Abby Ewing leads group joining litigation boutique
DALLAS – Litigation boutique Estes Thorne & Carr PLLC has added partner Abby Ewing and associates Stephanie Matherne and Claire James to its growing Family Law practice.

You have to be an emotional touchstone, but you also have to be a tough negotiator and litigator,” said managing partner Jessica Thorne. “Those are attributes shared by Abby, Stephanie and Claire. Ms. Ewing works with clients ranging from single parents to entrepreneurs and business executives on diverse family law matters involving divorce, child support and pre- and post-marital agreements. She also has experience with child custody disputes involving multiple states and governed by the UCCJEA and claims of child abduction under international law involving the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. With a background as a commercial litigator, Ms. Ewing also offers a unique approach to complex property and business division matters.
In recognition of her work, she has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America guide (2018-2020), Texas Super Lawyers (2015-2018) and D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas (2015). She joins Estes Thorne & Carr from Fox Rothschild LLP.
Also joining the firm from Fox Rothschild is Ms. Matherne, whose family law litigation and mediation practice focuses on divorce, custody, child support, protective orders, spousal maintenance and property division, including business valuation and tracing of separate and community property.
A former Child Protective Services worker, Ms. James has unique insights to matters involving child safety issues, family violence and other disputed custody matters. In addition to traditional divorce, her family law practice includes the complex issues related to same-sex marriage and relationship dissolution. In addition to family law, Ms. James has an extensive background in business litigation. She joins the firm from Cowles & Thompson PC.
