Two more lawyers named to the inaugural edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch
It goes without saying that this year has been one for the record books. We’ve all had the distractions of kids and dogs running through our Zoom calls, or we’ve discovered that our significant other has an entirely different “work tone” that we’ve never heard before.
Through it all, the attorneys at Estes Thorne & Carr have kept a keen eye on moving our clients’ legal needs forward. It is always a pleasure to receive some outstanding news that celebrates the impact our attorneys have made for our clients.
We are proud to say that eight of our Estes Thorne & Carr family members have been selected for the 2021 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, one of the oldest and most highly respected U.S. attorney guides. Inclusion in the publication is based on confidential peer-review surveys submitted by attorneys who practice in the same legal fields and within the same geographic regions.
In addition, the organization chose 2021 to release the inaugural edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch. This separate distinction is given for outstanding professional excellence to attorneys who have been practicing for five to nine years. Two of our attorneys are receiving this first-time honor, which employs the same Best Lawyers peer-review methodology.
We must say that having this many of our lawyers representing the highest-quality standards of the legal industry in nine individual practice areas is especially rewarding, given the size of our firm.
Read on to find out the details.
Commercial Litigation
Our firm has decades of experience with business disputes of all shapes and sizes. This year, Carol C. Payne, Jessica W. Thorne, Dawn Estes, Katherine “Katie” Anand and Linda Moore all stood out to their peers for their work in commercial litigation. This is Linda’s first Best Lawyers selection. Carol has been recognized since 2006, Jessica since 2013 and Dawn since 2016. Katie was selected for the first time last year.
And, just as exciting, Megan McKennon has been singled out and named in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for commercial litigation.
Family Law and Collaborative Law: Family Law
We take our role as a support system seriously when working to help our clients navigate the difficult waters of family law. Our family law attorneys who are recognized for their compassionate work in this practice area include Jessica, Abby Ewing and Lindsay Daye Barbee. Jessica has been recognized since 2013. Abby was first named to Best Lawyers in 2018, and Lindsay was selected last year.
We also want to celebrate Stephanie L. Matherne, who is among the first to be included in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for family law practice.
Litigation – Construction
Our attorneys have decades of experience working not just in the construction industry, but the construction industry in Texas, so they can provide valuable insight into practices specific to our state. Carol was recognized for her expertise in this specialty in this year’s guide.
And for the second time, Megan is featured in the first edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for her work in construction litigation.
Legal Malpractice Law – Defendants
We understand the seriousness of legal malpractice claims and the lasting effects they can have on a lawyer’s professional reputation. Carol’s work in this area secured her inclusion among this year’s top legal malpractice litigators in Best Lawyers.
Employment Law – Management / Labor Law – Union / Litigation – Labor and Employment
COVID-19 will undoubtedly expand new regulations and judicial rulings related to employee, labor and employer rights. Lori M. Carr is renowned for her practice in labor and employment, and she was distinguished in the specialties of and labor and employment litigation, employment law related to management and labor law in regard to unions by Best Lawyers. Lori has been selected each year since 2012.
Arbitration
As we listen to our clients, we understand that alternative resolutions to disputes may be the fastest and most economical approach to solving a legal issue. This year, Dawn was honored with inclusion in the guide by her peers for representing clients during arbitration.
Congratulations to these outstanding women for driving excellence in our legal profession. We toast each of you for your dedicated commitment to our clients from a safe CDC-approved distance. Cheers!
